2001年戛纳电影节影评人周单元最佳影片奖 2001年东京国际电影节最佳导演奖、评审团奖 神学院学生赛耶德·哈桑即将升职做牧师，偏偏在就职典礼之前他的礼服被一个小男孩偷去了。于是他追踪到一个边远的郊区，那里的居民生活贫苦，从未见过牧师，对此知之甚少。最后，赛耶德学会了重要的一课：在宗教教义与艰难的生活现实生活存在着鸿沟，而这样的差异需要用情感去填补。雷萨-米尔卡瑞米导演在东京国际电影节致词时特别强调，他想告诉大家其实伊斯兰教是很爱好和平的宗教，而且也反对恐怖主义，并不是一种带暴力色彩的宗教。 与我们同根同种的亚洲人拍的这片子里，处处使我觉得亲切熟稔。年轻人憨憨而不知所措的表情、学校长者官腔却不乏真情的训导、暗淡而陈旧的店铺、城市角落里最卑微的人群、缓慢的生活，这一切都像是我们自己在成长路上所经历所看见过的。 他们多诚实，伊朗的贫困与落后历历地显现出来。可我敢说，这片子能打动的绝不止我一个人，也不止我们这些亚洲人。描绘贫穷而非展示贫穷，坦陈伤口而非哀矜伤口，伊朗的导演实在胜过我们某些所谓著名导演太多。

影片从一个美国战地记者的眼光看着名的奠边府之役，颇给人启发。强权被弱者打败，传为千古被誉为“军事上的奇迹”。奠边府位于越南北部紧靠上寮，1954年初，在奠边府集结的法军共有2万多人，除步兵和伞兵之外，还有2个105榴炮营、1个155榴炮营。法军通过空投运输物资，使之成为“东南亚的凡尔登”，是当时法军在越南最大的控制区和最重要的军事据点。
1954年3月13日越南人民军以5倍于法军的兵力对奠边府进行进攻，越法双方的这场惨烈的攻防大激战直至5月7日结束。越南人民军在奠边府战役取得了辉煌的战果，击毙法军5000余人，俘虏1万1千余人，击毁各型号飞机62架，坦克4辆，缴获重炮30门，坦克6辆，最终迫使法军投降，从此从越南撤军。

Just two weeks before Roya, a banned Iranian journalist, is set to emigrate from Iran to Denmark at her husband’s insistence, she encounters a quiet young girl. The girl seems lost and doesn’t remember anything. Roya takes her in, unaware that the girl has abandoned her previous life and now has come to replace Roya. A couple of days later, Roya finds out that she will be prohibited from leaving Iran unless she sells out a colleague to the government authorities. Soon after Roya refuses to betray her friend, the young girl steals Roya’s identity and takes over her life with the assistance of Roya’s husband, Babak. As Roya fights to recover her identity, she realises, to her surprise, that no one remembers her anymore and that everybody takes the lost girl to be her. Babak throws Roya out of the house, at which point the authorities decide that Roya is to be exiled to another life as a passive housewife named Hanieh.

The story opens in Balochistan, in a small, scarcely ‘wired’ village bordering Iran and Afghanistan. Ahmad is an idealistic teacher in exile, educating the local community his partner Haseeba, however, has spent time in jail in Tehran for the very same offence against the State. The disaccord between them is not only social but also personal. Ahmad's destiny collides with that of a family fleeing the Taliban soon the intricate divisions of age and gender within that group will trigger other problems and entanglements – including a 'lovers on the run' intrigue that fleetingly recalls Murnau's classic Tabu (1931).
Across all the arresting, shifting peripeteia of its plot, Abbas Amini's film deftly dramatises the complicated question of commitment: do we commit ourselves to a political cause, a set of religious beliefs, or a person? And how do we negotiate the commitments of others, even those closest to us, when they are based on a very different value system?
With its sparse music score, densely naturalistic acting and unostentatious camera work, Endless Borders is almost a minimalistic suspense thriller (with Hitchcockian overtones), combined with a heated family melodrama – but it never loses sight of the serious and extremely timely issues that it raises.

Masoumeh: An Afghan woman is searching for her missing husband who hasn't come home in two days, in the middle of a riot in Mashhad. Her daughter Hanieh is losing her hearing and wonders where her father is. Mohammad: A teenage Afghan boy is constantly being captured by the police and taken to the station for forced labor. His family works precariously in greenhouses, and he needs to find a solution on his own. Leila: A female janitor finds her husband dead before the new year's big celebration. As she and her son are illegally living in Iran, she needs to bury her husband without the house owners noticing, otherwise she might be deported. Qasem: The brother of Leila finds out his son had been killed in a proxy war in Syria. The government wants to grant citizenship to the Afghan families that've lost sons. The man struggles to reveal this to his wife Hanieh.
